Applications due November 14, 2016

Two deadlines are approaching for individuals interested in applying for a Women in Aviation International (WAI) scholarship for 2017. In order to apply, you must be a WAI member as of November 1, 2016. Scholarship applications must be submitted online or postmarked no later than November 14, 2016. New this year, all applications may be submitted online at www.WAI.org.

Funds will be used to provide helicopter-themed educational materials

Women in Aviation International received an $8,000 grant from Bell Helicopter which will be used to provide instructional materials about helicopters to use as a hands-on teaching activity for girls ages 8 to 16 for the September 24, 2016, youth outreach.

Corporate members also plan events

In addition to Women in Aviation International chapters, some of WAI’s corporate members are hosting Girls in Aviation Day events. With just over one week to go until September 24, plans are in place for an instructive and fun day for local participants.

"Joining forces with our corporate members increases the reach and impact of Girls in Aviation Day,” says WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian.

Funds to expand distribution of Aviation for Girls magazine

Women in Aviation International received a $10,000 grant from the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT) Foundation, which funds educational programs that advance commercial aviation. This is the second year that WAI has received an ISTAT grant.

The grant will be used to expand the distribution of Aviation for Girls magazine and WAI will identify ISTAT as the sponsor of this year’s issue. Aviation for Girls is an important resource for WAI’s international Girls in Aviation Day, which will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016. That day, WAI chapters around the world will provide learning opportunities and conduct hands-on aviation activities to introduce girls, ages 8 to 16, to the aviation lifestyle as well as to the career possibilities in aviation and aerospace.

WAI Chapters hard at work to create memorable day

With a month to go before Girls in Aviation Day on September 24, 2016, Women in Aviation International chapters are busy planning a memorable and fun experience for local participants.

"I’m proud of our chapters and the ingenuity and organization they show in planning their local events to create a unique experience for local girls,” says WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian.

"What’s terrific about our chapters is they have reached out to other organizations and made full use of local venues to create a memorable day to impact the lives of girls around the globe. Thousands of lives will be will be impacted by Girls in Aviation Day.”

Kelly Murphy has joined the Women in Aviation International staff as director of communications and editor-in-chief of Aviation for Women. Kelly replaces Kelly Nelson who has returned to EAA as executive editor of EAA Publications.A WAI member since 1997, Kelly Murphy will assume her new duties on September 1, 2016.

Full day of activities gives visibility to hundreds of pro-aviation women

Now in its ninth successful year, WomenVenture activities were expanded this year to a week-long event, but Wednesday was declared Women’s Day at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. WomenVenture has provided a way for women to connect at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh while having Oshkosh-style fun at the same time.

Meeting planned for September 16-17, 2016

Women in Aviation International has a regional conference planned in Seattle, Washington, September 16-17, 2016. The two-day regional conference will be held at Seattle’s famed Museum of Flight and the Seattle Airport Marriott and begins with a tour of the Boeing Company headquarters.

Women in Aviation International today announces the launch of its new, fully-featured website at www.WAI.org . The website has extensive content including information on scholarships, history, events, mentorships, chapter information, and aviation careers. It was designed with the WAI member in mind – to make navigation and information access as simple as possible to WAI’s 12,000 members worldwide.

Applicants: Start Applying!

As of today’s launch date, WAI is offering 98 scholarships valued at $499,000. Scholarships are available for nearly every interest in aviation and aerospace and include academic scholarships, flight training scholarships, aviation maintenance centered scholarships, advanced flight ratings and type ratings, and a wide variety of other options. The majority of these scholarships will be awarded at the 28th annual International Women in Aviation Conference at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort March 2-4, 2017, in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Additional scholarships will be added in the coming months, and the total value of awarded scholarships typically reaches more than $600,000 annually.
