Now in its second decade, WomenVenture, a week-long social and networking event for women during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, showcases the hundreds of women at AirVenture for whom aviation is a way of life. More than a thousand women gathered in Boeing Plaza today for WomenVenture’s annual group photo, with most participants wearing their red WomenVenture t-shirts.

Worldwide outreach scheduled for October 13, 2018

Women in Aviation International’s network of more than 115 chapters, corporate members, and partners, are making their plans for individual events for Girls in Aviation Day 2018. Celebrated worldwide, Girls in Aviation Day is now in its fourth year as a global event and is designed to introduce and educate girls 8 to 17 years of age on the many career choices and lifestyle possibilities offered by the aviation/aerospace industry.

As the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) celebrated its 75 th Anniversary Homecoming at Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas, members of Women in Aviation International and others in the aviation community honored those pioneering World War II women who have passed by visiting and decorating their graves during Memorial Day weekend.

A contingent led by WAI Director of Communications Kelly Murphy decorated WASP graves in Arlington National Cemetery. A photo of each individual grave was then tweeted with the hashtag #HonoringTheWASP.

In response to media inquiries following the Southwest Flight 1380 incident, Women in Aviation International (WAI) provides the following information: According to Federal Aviation Administration data , as of December 31, 2017 (the most recent available), 42,694 women hold a pilot certificate, representing 7 percent of the total pilot population. Of these female pilots, 6,994 women hold an Air Transport Pilot certificate. The number of female pilots in the United States has been slowly but steadily increasing in recent years.
