Two days of energizing and inspiring content to be delivered March 11 & 12, 2021

After careful consideration and review of the current worldwide COVID-19 pandemic trends, Women in Aviation International announced today that its 32 nd Annual International Women in Aviation Conference will be held virtually on March 11 and 12, 2021. The all-virtual platform will allow members and industry friends to attend from the convenience of their home and/or office.

November 10 is the cut-off date for nearly $400,000 in awards

Thousands of dollars in scholarships will be awarded at WAI’s 32 nd Annual International Women in Aviation Conference, and the time to apply is now. To qualify for a scholarship, the applicant must be a current WAI member by November 1, and submit the application by November 10, 2020.

82 individual scholarships, worth nearly $400,000 are available in areas ranging from aerospace to engineering, from maintenance, dispatcher, to flight training. Numerous career enhancement and type ratings are available. As in past years, scholarships are not just for young people or students. A variety of scholarships are targeted for people in mid-career or even retirement.

Aviation for Girls App already reaches 55 countries

Women in Aviation International’s 6 th Annual Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) was celebrated virtually September 26, 2020, with the launch of the exciting new Aviation for Girls App, sponsored by the U.S. Air Force. Within the first week, this free, year-round experience for girls ages 8-17 has already connected thousands of participants in 55 countries.

“Our goal in delivering a virtual experience for this year’s Girls in Aviation Day was to extend our reach and inspire girls-no matter where they live or learn,” says WAI CEO Allison McKay. “Last year, our in-person events reached girls in 18 countries. This year, the app has already tripled our reach and connected with girls all around the world providing them with access to hours of inspiring content to expand their knowledge about all the opportunities in aviation and aerospace.”

The thousands of participants in 55 countries include Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Guam, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Kosovo, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, US Virgin Islands, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, and Zambia.

Six years of support helps make Girls in Aviation Day and Aviation for Girls magazine possible

For the sixth year in a row, Women in Aviation International received a $15,000 grant from the International Society of Transport Aircraft Training (ISTAT) Foundation, which funds educational programs that advance commercial aviation.

As in past years, this grant will be used to expand the distribution of Aviation for Girls magazine with the ISTAT Foundation identified as the sponsor of this year’s issue. With this grant, the number of copies printed will be distributed in both hard copy and digitally. The 2020 issue of Aviation for Girls will be available digitally to all Women in Aviation International members and any interested individuals at WAI.org

Enrollment is now open; Aviation for Girls App to Launch on September 26

Women in Aviation International’s 6 th Annual Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) will deliver a free, year-round experience for girls ages 8-17 around the world through the launch of a new Aviation for Girls (AFG) App, sponsored by the U.S. Air Force.

Available to all interested in aviation/aerospace and STEM, the AFG App is the tool WAI will provide to deliver valuable content and resources including career videos, virtual museum tours, scholarship information, hands-on activities, book readings in multiple languages, as well as digital issues of Aviation for Girls magazine. And despite the name, girls and boys are both welcome to participate.

Kicks off WomenVenture activities on July 22 at 9 a.m. EDT

Despite the canceled #OSH20, Women in Aviation International (WAI) is dedicated to kicking off the virtual WomenVenture for EAA AirVenture Oshkosh with the 25 th annual Connect breakfast featuring dynamic virtual speaker Vernice ‘FlyGirl’ Armour. While this year’s WAI event will be virtual via a Zoom webinar, it will be free to all and features FlyGirl on a 60-minute live interactive session for pre-registered attendees.

America’s first African-American female combat pilot, FlyGirl is the author of Zero to Breakthrough and is working on her next book, The Gutsy Move . She was an inspirational speaker at WAI’s 2017 annual conference in Orlando, Florida. With her leadership keynotes and consulting, FlyGirl commands corporate and tech-centric executive audiences across the globe with her recent presentations: A NEW Conversation, Rules of Engagement, Gutsy Moves, and Something Gooods’ Gonna Come Outta THIS!

Start applying for available scholarships!

With new scholarships being posted weekly, the 2021 WAI scholarship program officially opens tomorrow, July 1, and members can review dozens of scholarships. Currently, there are 56 scholarships offered for flight training, engineering, maintenance, dispatcher, and professional development for individuals in all stages of life. Additional scholarships and internships will be added in the coming weeks and months, with over 100 scholarships expected to be posted by the Fall. Applicants are encouraged to check for new scholarships often and may apply for up to three scholarships per year.

WAI to launch new Aviation for Girls App on 6 th Annual GIAD, September 26

Women in Aviation International’s Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) will go on in 2020 – despite the global pandemic – and it will be bigger and more far-reaching than ever! WAI chapters and corporate members will not host in-person events this year, and will instead deliver a virtual experience through a new Aviation for Girls app that is free and available to all beginning Saturday, September 26, 2020.

“With the continued growth and success of Girls in Aviation Day – in large part due to the dedicated and tireless efforts of WAI Corporate Members and Chapters all around the world – we knew we had to expand the GIAD experience this year, and canceling wasn’t an option,” says WAI CEO Allison McKay. “With input from our chapters, partners, board of directors, and staff, we decided for the safety of our youngsters and volunteers, to provide a virtual experience that takes no chances with safety.”

More than 100 Women Airforce Service Pilots are honored

Women in Aviation International members and friends carefully planned gravesite tributes or virtual message recordings to 110 Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) across the country during last month’s Memorial Day weekend. In an effort to allow participants to observe best social-distancing practices, WAI used the last two weeks in May to visit gravesites and take photos to leave appropriate decorations in the form of flowers, flags, or other remembrances.
