Former NASA astronaut and Army Lt. Col. Charles "Sam" Gemar will be the featured speaker at WAI Air Captial City Chapter's annual fund raising dinner on May 6 at Stearman Field Bar & Grill in Benton, Kansas. Gemar was a crew member on three Space Shuttle Missions.

The Air Capital City Chapter raises funds annually to send low-income girls who participate in a local program called " Future Women in A STEM Career " to Space Camp. In 2013 the chapter sent 25 girls, this year the goal is to send 40.

Arab News reports that 35-year-old Hanadi Al-Hindi is the first woman to be issued a pilot certificate from the General Authority of Civil Aviation, granting her authority to fly in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Hindi flies for Kingdom Holdings Company and already held a commercial pilots license and instrument rating, but was not allowed to fly in her own country because she did not hold a Saudi license.

A fundraising effort is underway to save a portion of the Willow Run bomber plant near Yipsilanti, Michigan. The Michigan Aerospace Foundation says they have until May 1, 2014, to raise the necessary funds to purchase a portion of the property and save a section of the historic plant to house the Yankee Air Museum.

Organizers say every $50 raised saves 1 square foot of the plant. At the peak of production during World War II, the Willow Run plant produced B-24 Liberators at a rate of 1 per hour, employing more than 40,000 workers—including the iconic women assembly line workers...

Pilots flying in for EAA AirVenture 2014 can now download the 2014 Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for arrival and departure procedures into Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. EAA's 62nd annual fly-in convention runs July 28-August 3, and the NOTAM is in effect July 25-August 4.
