Congratulations to the 31 teams that completed the 2014 Air Race Classic, flying more than 2,300 nm across the country June 16-19, 2014. A total of 47 teams participated in the race with stops in Concord, California; Dorris, California; Elko, Nevada; Pinedale, Wyoming, Scottsbluff, Nebraska; Norfolk, Nebraska; Iowa City, Iowa; Danville, Illinois; Athens, Ohio; York, Pennsylvania; and New Cumberland, Pennsylvania.

On June 18, 1983, the space shuttle Challenger launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, with Dr. Sally Ride aboard. Ride, an astrophysicist from Stanford University became the first American woman to travel to space.

Ride was inducted into WAI's Pioneer Hall of Fame earlier this year at the 25th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

The Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE) has elected three new directors, each for three-year terms, including two WAI members.

Sherry Knight Rossiter , WAI 4474, of Missoula, Montana; Dr. Donna Wilt , WAI 3479, of Melbourne, Florida; and Ken Wittekiend of Burnet, Texas, were elected by popular vote open to all 900 SAFE members and will begin their duties at the Society's annual meeting on July 31, 2014.

Mary S. Feik, WAI 53, has been named the 2014 honoree to be inducted into the Dr. Paul E. Garber First Flight Shrine located in the Museum and Visitors Center at the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

The induction ceremony, including the unveiling and presentation of a portrait of Mary will be held on December 17, 2014, with a celebration banquet held on December 16 in Kitty Hawk.

Female candidates or organizations that have made significant contributions to the aviation industry as record setters, pioneers, or innovators are eligible. Posthumous nominations are acceptable. The 17th annual EAA AirVenture Cup Race will launch on Sunday, July 27, 2014 from Mitchell, South Dakota (KMHE), and organizers are taking racer applications through July 1. The timed 400-statute mile race ends in Wausau, Wisconsin (KAUW), before racers head to Oshkosh (KOSH) for the annual EAA AirVenture fly-in convention.
