sally-ride-space.jpgOn June 18, 1983, the space shuttle Challenger launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, with Dr. Sally Ride aboard. Ride, an astrophysicist from Stanford University became the first American woman to travel to space.

Ride was inducted into WAI's Pioneer Hall of Fame earlier this year at the 25th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
