Whirly-Girls International Announces 2015 Scholarship Winners

Whirly-Girls International has announced the winners of their 2015 Whirly-Girls Scholarships. Colleen Chen , Vice President of Scholarships, made the announcement March 1 at the Whirly-Girls International annual banquet during the HELI-EXPO convention in Orlando, Florida. The banquet also celebrated the 60th anniversary of Whirly-Girls, an organization founded by Jean Ross Howard Phelan in 1955 so female pilots could share information and camaraderie. Mentors Needed for EAA's Women Soar You Soar

The Experimental Aircraft Association is looking for female mentors who will provide guidance, support, and advice to girls who participate in the Women Soar You Soar day camp held during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2015.

The camp is scheduled from Sunday, July 19, through Wednesday, July 22. Through the camp, high school girls are introduced to women mentors who work in aviation fields - from engineers to fighter pilots. As they pursue their dreams in aviation, the girls spend time at the camp in career exploration, flight simulation, workshops, sessions with mentors, and more....

Dorothy Hilbert Chapter Volunteer of the Year Award

At Wednesday’s Chapter Reception Rose Dorcey, WAI 12645, of the WAI Oshkosh Chapter was presented the Dorothy Hilbert Chapter Volunteer of the Year award for her contributions to her local chapter’s outreach and fundraising efforts. For the past 4 years the Oshkosh Chapter has hosted a cupcake competition and, from the start, Rose has cheerfully lead the execution of the event. The past couple of conferences have seen greater numbers of attendees specifically interested in talking with exhibiting companies about career opportunities, and that focus has at times caused quite a bit of congestion in the exhibit hall. In an effort to serve the needs of our job seeking attendees and still provide an enjoyable conference experience for the majority of conference attendees, last year we instituted a fast pass process. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem and we still saw long lines. Back to the drawing board we went!
