Meet and Greet Tammie Jo at her October 10 book launch

The Capital Region Chapter of Women in Aviation International (WAI) is hosting a book launch for Tammie Jo Shults’ book, Nerves of Steel. The event will be held at The Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, October 10, 2019, from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Tammie Jo Shults, WAI 16430, is the Southwest Airlines pilot and former Navy F/A-18 pilot who safely landed Southwest Airlines Flight 1380 after a catastrophic engine failure in April 2018. Nerves of Steel is her memoir where she describes her experience as a pilot as well as recounting the day of the emergency.

“Tammie Jo is a terrific role model, but anyone interested in aviation will enjoy meeting her,” says WAI Director of Communications Kelly Murphy. “Our members have had the opportunity to hear Tammie Jo’s story at our annual conference in March 2019 or at the WAI Connect Breakfast at EAA AirVenture, now we are pleased to support her book launch for an even wider audience to learn about her inspiring true story.” A young readers edition of Nerves of Steel is also being released in November, and focuses on overcoming obstacles and living your purpose.

Located at the gateway to the Arlington National Cemetery, The Women In Military Service For America Memorial (The Women’s Memorial) is the only memorial dedicated to honoring all three million women who are serving or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces since the American Revolution. Because of Tammie Jo's military service, the Women's Memorial was selected for her book launch since the mission of the Memorial is to both recognize all the women who have served, and to preserve their history by telling their stories.
