The annual WomenVenture gathering, designed to encourage an inspire women in aviation and those who want to fly, will welcome hundreds of female aviators on Wednesday, July 30, during the annual EAA AirVenture Oshkosh fly-in convention.

Sponsored by Women in Aviation, International, EAA, and The Ninety-Nines, WomenVenture is moving to mid-week this year to allow for expansion of the day's activities and welcome more participants.

Women in Corporate Aviation (WCA) has announced more than $110,000 in scholarships to be awarded during the annual NBAA Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition in Orlando, Florida at an awards ceremony on October 22, 2014.

"This marks the first time in WCA's 21-year history that we've surpassed $100,000 in scholarships, and we're extremely grateful to our corporate sponsors," said WCA President Brenda Miles.

I remember that on Mother’s Day we were receiving the first place award for the race leg from Istanbul, Turkey to Dubai, United Arabic Emirates. It had taken ten hours and 54 minutes over Turkey, around Iraq over Iran and the Persian Gulf above 15,000 feet without enough oxygen for both of us. The Partnership for Corporate Aviation Training (PCAT) is working with the National Flight Academy to provide four scholarships for students ages 11-17 years old. Applications are being accepted until May 31, 2014.

The annual weekend air show features re-enactors and action flights of World War II-era warbirds including the Me-262, Lancaster Bomber, and the world's only flying de Havilland Mosquito. Former NASA astronaut and Army Lt. Col. Charles "Sam" Gemar will be the featured speaker at WAI Air Captial City Chapter's annual fund raising dinner on May 6 at Stearman Field Bar & Grill in Benton, Kansas. Gemar was a crew member on three Space Shuttle Missions.

The Air Capital City Chapter raises funds annually to send low-income girls who participate in a local program called " Future Women in A STEM Career " to Space Camp. In 2013 the chapter sent 25 girls, this year the goal is to send 40.

Arab News reports that 35-year-old Hanadi Al-Hindi is the first woman to be issued a pilot certificate from the General Authority of Civil Aviation, granting her authority to fly in Saudi Arabia.

Al-Hindi flies for Kingdom Holdings Company and already held a commercial pilots license and instrument rating, but was not allowed to fly in her own country because she did not hold a Saudi license.

Women Soar You Soar 2014 * July 28-31

EAA's Women Soar You Soar is the ideal place for high school girls to find out more about the opportunities available to them in the aviation industry. A fundraising effort is underway to save a portion of the Willow Run bomber plant near Yipsilanti, Michigan. The Michigan Aerospace Foundation says they have until May 1, 2014, to raise the necessary funds to purchase a portion of the property and save a section of the historic plant to house the Yankee Air Museum.

Organizers say every $50 raised saves 1 square foot of the plant. At the peak of production during World War II, the Willow Run plant produced B-24 Liberators at a rate of 1 per hour, employing more than 40,000 workers—including the iconic women assembly line workers...

Pilots flying in for EAA AirVenture 2014 can now download the 2014 Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for arrival and departure procedures into Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. EAA's 62nd annual fly-in convention runs July 28-August 3, and the NOTAM is in effect July 25-August 4.
