Air Race Classic

…And one filled with friendly competition!

Fifty-one teams of women will take off for the 42nd Air Race Classic, racing from Jackson, Tennessee, beginning on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, for a 2,538-mile race course which ends in Welland, Ontario, Canada, on Friday, June 21, 2019.

“We wish blue skies and tailwinds to all the racers, many of whom are WAI members,” says WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian. “This year, 17 collegiate teams represent aviation colleges and universities nationwide, and we wish safe landings to all.”

Fifty-two teams of women will take off for the 41 st Air Race Classic from Frederick, Maryland, on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, for a 2,648-mile sprint across the United States that ends in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Friday, June 23, 2017.

Registration is open for the 41st Air Race Classic (ARC), the annual all-women cross-country airplane race. More than 100 female pilots from around the world are expected to compete in the 2017 race, which begins Tuesday, June 20, 2017, in Frederick, Maryland, and ends Friday, June 23, 2017, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The E mmy-nominated documentary Beyond The Powder will screen for attendees of the world's largest general aviation fly-in, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016. The film will have two screenings during the week-long event, offering visitors a unique look at the Air Race Classic women's air race.

Beyond The Powder has been airing on PBS stations nationwide throughout the month of June. The one-hour documentary is a coproduction of Hemlock Films and Western Reserve PBS.

American Public Television has agreed to distribute the Air Race Classic documentary Beyond the Powder: The Legacy of the First Women's Cross-Country Air Race nationally for PBS in June 2016.

The film will be shown Friday, March 11, at the 2016 International Women in Aviation Conference in March. It follows participants in the 2014 Air Race Classic as they make their way across the country and shares the story of the original Powder Puff Derby in 1929.
