Aviation for Girls App already reaches 55 countries

Women in Aviation International’s 6 th Annual Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) was celebrated virtually September 26, 2020, with the launch of the exciting new Aviation for Girls App, sponsored by the U.S. Air Force. Within the first week, this free, year-round experience for girls ages 8-17 has already connected thousands of participants in 55 countries.

“Our goal in delivering a virtual experience for this year’s Girls in Aviation Day was to extend our reach and inspire girls-no matter where they live or learn,” says WAI CEO Allison McKay. “Last year, our in-person events reached girls in 18 countries. This year, the app has already tripled our reach and connected with girls all around the world providing them with access to hours of inspiring content to expand their knowledge about all the opportunities in aviation and aerospace.”

The thousands of participants in 55 countries include Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Guam, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Kosovo, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, US Virgin Islands, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, and Zambia.

Six years of support helps make Girls in Aviation Day and Aviation for Girls magazine possible

For the sixth year in a row, Women in Aviation International received a $15,000 grant from the International Society of Transport Aircraft Training (ISTAT) Foundation, which funds educational programs that advance commercial aviation.

As in past years, this grant will be used to expand the distribution of Aviation for Girls magazine with the ISTAT Foundation identified as the sponsor of this year’s issue. With this grant, the number of copies printed will be distributed in both hard copy and digitally. The 2020 issue of Aviation for Girls will be available digitally to all Women in Aviation International members and any interested individuals at WAI.org .

Enrollment is now open; Aviation for Girls App to Launch on September 26

Women in Aviation International’s 6 th Annual Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) will deliver a free, year-round experience for girls ages 8-17 around the world through the launch of a new Aviation for Girls (AFG) App, sponsored by the U.S. Air Force.

Available to all interested in aviation/aerospace and STEM, the AFG App is the tool WAI will provide to deliver valuable content and resources including career videos, virtual museum tours, scholarship information, hands-on activities, book readings in multiple languages, as well as digital issues of Aviation for Girls magazine. And despite the name, girls and boys are both welcome to participate.

Funds used for Girls in Aviation Day participants about helicopters

Women in Aviation International (WAI) has received a $10,000 grant from Bell to help fund educational activities for WAI’s Girls in Aviation Day. Specifically, this grant is used to provide helicopter-oriented editorial content in WAI’s annual magazine Aviation for Girls and to provide hands-on educational activities including understanding rotary flight by experimenting with and flying whirly-gigs.

Funds to expand distribution of Aviation for Girls magazine, promote aviation careers
