Fundraising, Strategic Planning, & Workforce Development Are Priorities

The WAI Board of Directors is pleased to announce Allison McKay will join Women in Aviation International as CEO on February 18, 2020, and is responsible for the future strategic vision of the 14,500-member strong organization while overseeing the board of directors, professional staff, and daily operations. She previously served as vice president of the Helicopter Association International Foundation since 2015 commissioning the first academic study of staffing projections for the rotorcraft industry as well as creating a workforce development initiative. Allison will draw from more than 20 years of experience in the development and implementation of highly strategic initiatives with other aviation companies including Safran USA and B/E Aerospace.

Already impressive speaker roster augmented further for 31 st Annual WAI Conference

Amber Smith, combat helicopter pilot and author of Danger Close: My Epic Journey as a Combat Helicopter Pilot in Iraq and Afghanistan has been confirmed as a speaker for the 31 st Annual Women in Aviation International Conference, augmenting an incredible roster of speakers. Amber joins Secretary of the U.S. Airforce Barbara Barrett, Stephanie Chung, JetSuite president; Col. Eileen Collins, NASA astronaut; Maj. Gen. Jeannie Leavitt, U.S. Air Force; and Joan Robinson-Berry, Boeing Global Services vice president & chief engineer, as keynote speakers for the March 5-7, 2020, Conference at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Boeing Donates $50,000; Fund Will Increase Scholarships & Youth Outreach Programs

A generous $50,000 gift from The Boeing Company, in addition to several donations from individual WAI members, during the recent 30th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference in Long Beach, California, has helped the organization to reach its goal of $1 million in its Endowment Fund.

The fund enables WAI to expand the 2020 scholarship program, which will be available online July 1, 2019 (for which applications are due November 12, 2019). At the WAI 2019 conference, 156 scholarships were distributed to WAI members at every stage of life for academic use, lifestyle enhancement, and flight training including type ratings. A total of $875,065 in scholarships was awarded putting the total scholarships awarded since 1995 to more than $12 million.

The 30th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference accomplished its goal to Connect. Engage. Inspire at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California, on March 14-16, 2019.

This conference marked 30 years since WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian hosted 150 people for the first conference in Prescott, Arizona, hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at the nearby Sheraton Hotel.

The 29th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference accomplished its goal to Connect. Engage. Inspire. at Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada, March 22-24, 2018.

"Our annual conference covers serious topics and provides crucial career guidance, but its strength is in the celebration of so many like-minded women who come together to share their passion for aviation and aerospace,” said Women in Aviation International (WAI) President Dr. Peggy Chabrian. "From a NASA astronaut, top-level women executives, engineers, pilots of all levels right through young students, and all aerospace professions, we are united in a desire to help one another and further our careers and personal lives.”

New member benefit

Women in Aviation International today announced a new member benefit. Avemco® Insurance Company now offers a 5% discount to all WAI members. This new member benefit is effective immediately in most states and will be a boost to the hundreds of WAI members who own and rent aircraft.

“With all of us trying to keep our flying affordable, this discount from Avemco® will help stretch our flying budgets a bit more,” says WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian. “We thank Avemco for recognizing our commitment to safety and partnering with us to provide this new benefit.”
