Scholarships

Women in Aviation International (WAI) is thrilled to offer 47 new scholarships in a variety of aviation career pursuits thanks to a generous $250,000 grant from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. Details of the scholarships will be posted at WAI.org on March 1, 2021.

The 30th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference accomplished its goal to Connect. Engage. Inspire at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California, on March 14-16, 2019.

This conference marked 30 years since WAI President Dr. Peggy Chabrian hosted 150 people for the first conference in Prescott, Arizona, hosted by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at the nearby Sheraton Hotel.

Deadline approaches to apply

Two deadlines are approaching for individuals interested in applying for a Women in Aviation International (WAI) scholarship for 2018. In order to apply, you must be a WAI member as of November 1, 2017. Scholarship applications must be submitted online or postmarked no later than November 13, 2017. All applications may be submitted online at www.WAI.org and applicants are allowed to apply for up to three scholarships.

Start applying for 103 scholarships!

At WAI’s 29th Annual International Women in Aviation Conference, 103 individual scholarships equaling $569,965 will be awarded. As is the tradition, these scholarships are available for both flight training and scholastic funding with specific scholarships earmarked for nearly every aspect of the aviation and aerospace community.

The scholarships will be awarded during WAI’s conference, held next year in Reno, Nevada, from March 22-24, 2018. Additional scholarships will be added in the coming months, and the total value of awarded scholarships typically reaches more than $600,000 annually.

Time still remains for members of Women in Corporate Aviation (WCA) to apply for more than $75,000 in aviation scholarships to use for leadership development, training and certification purposes. Applications are due by September 1.

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) is now accepting applications for three different flight training scholarship programs that will award more than $156,000.

The AOPA Foundation Scholarships will be awarded to AOPA members ages 16 and up working toward an initial pilot certificate. The application deadline is July 7, 2016.

The AOPA You Can Fly High School Flight Training Scholarship program will award 20 flight training scholarships to teens ages 15-18, and AOPA membership is not required. The application deadline is September 30, 2016.

The Civil Air Patrol has announced a program designed to expand opportunities to learn to fly for its young members.

National Advanced Flight Academy will provide private pilot scholarships valued at $16,000 to five CAP cadets in 2017. The scholarships will offer the opportunity to obtain a Class III Medical and student pilot certificate, and take the FAA private pilot knowledge course.
